Saas-Fee has the honour of being surrounded by more 4,000m peaks than anywhere else – a total of 13 – making it one of the most spectacular regions of the Alps. It’s situated in the neighbouring valley to Zermatt (although the two aren’t linked) and like Zermatt, it’s a traffic free and picturesque village whose old world charms are beautifully preserved.
Take the funicular railway to reach skiing up to 3,500m – once you’re there, it feels like stepping into Narnia, with mostly intermediate slopes on offer. It also features a large nursery slope area for beginners just above the village. And unlike those bigger resorts, it’s luxuriously crowd-free.
NEW TRAIN TRANSFER OPTION - you can now transfer by train from the airport, for a more environmentally friendly (and often cheaper) option. Win-win!
Our score is based on resort data; it reflects current forecasts, not guaranteed snow quality, and applies to the ski area, not specific resorts. Conditions can change quickly.

Best time to ski in Saas-Fee
With some of the highest slopes in the Alps, Saas is one of the most snow-sure ski destinations you can visit.
Things kick-off in early December and the lifts run until the end of April. December and January can be cold – thermal undies are definitely advised. However, this is also the time when the resort is at its most festive.
The slopes warm up from mid February onwards, which is the best time if you’re looking for off-piste and spring skiing conditions, when the sun has had a chance to soften the snow.
Things to do in Saas-Fee
They like their ice here. There are four ice rinks in the four villages of the Saas valley region, offering ice skating, ice hockey, curling or ice stock sport, also known as Bavarian curling. They’re also big fans of ice climbing and every year the multisport car park is turned into a venue for the Ice Climbing World Cup – and one of the wildest after parties.
If you prefer your ice in a glass of something strong, Saas has got your back too. It’s home to dozens of bars to while away the nights, some at the bottom of the slopes. In town there are dozens of great restaurants serving Swiss and Italian cuisine.
